The privatization of Wisconsin’s public schools are of great concern to people throughout the state. GOP legislators are scheming to hand over Milwaukee Public Schools to private operators despite these alarming facts about charter schools operating in Milwaukee.


King’s Academy

In December 2014, the City’s Charter School Review Committee recommended putting King’s Academy on Probation, because of poor academic performance and high turnover in staff and administration. In its 16th year as a school (11 years as a private voucher, 5 as a public City charter school), it “hasn’t risen to the level one might expect” (Review Committee member) and has experienced extremely high teacher turnover. learn more

Milwaukee Collegiate Academy

For the past two years, Milwaukee Collegiate Academy academic performance has been near the bottom among City charters. Its suspension rate was 56% in 2011-12 and 42% in 2012-13, higher than other City charter school or MPS high school. learn more

 

 


Milwaukee Math and Sciences Academy

In December 2014, the City’s Charter School Review Committee recommended putting Milwaukee Math and Sciences Academy on Probation, because of poor academic performance, institutional instability and excessive staff turnover. For the past two years, its academic performance has been near the bottom among City charters. The school is part of a national chain, Concept Schools, that is under investigation by the FBI along with other federal and state authorities in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. learn more


North Point Lighthouse Academy

In 2013-14 (its first time measured for proficiency), academic North Point Lighthouse Academy performance was near the bottom among City charters. Half of the 14-person teaching staff left during the year; two were replaced. Three remaining teachers were not DPI-licensed. learn more
